About Us
- Ship 550 has proudly served Long Beach and the surrounding communities for many years. The Ship has a long and respected history within the Long Beach Area Council and has been an active member of the Neptune Squadron for many years.
- Ship 550 meets year-round every Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Long Beach Sea Base. Meetings may also be held via Zoom when needed.
- The crew is led by Skipper Albert Guerra and a team of experienced adult Scouting volunteers. All volunteers are required to complete Youth Protection Training in accordance with Scouting America guidelines and undergo background checks as required by the State of California. In addition, adult volunteers must complete training appropriate to their respective leadership positions.
Our crew works hard and plays hard
- Our crew has enjoyed incredible adventures throughout the United States and around the world. We have traveled to several High Adventure camps, including Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Northern Tier in Michigan, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. We have also participated in three National Scout Jamborees and attended regattas and camporees throughout California.
- Our sailing adventures have taken us to remarkable destinations, including the cays of the Bahamas and the islands of St. Thomas and St. John. Most recently, our crew traveled to Portugal, where we had the opportunity to sail alongside Sea Scouts from other countries. These experiences have helped our Scouts develop leadership, teamwork, and confidence while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
