WHO WE ARE

Ship 550 has been serving Long Beach and the neighboring communities for a long time. We have a long history within the council

and we have been part of the Neptune Squadron for many years.

The Ship meets year-round every Tuesday evening (7:00p to 8:30p) at the Long Beach Sea Base located at

Address: 5875 Appian Way, Long Beach, CA 90803 or via Zoom as needed.

This crew is led by  Skipper Albert Guerra and other experienced scouters.

All volunteers must be Youth Protection Trained per BSA guidelines and are trained at their level of leadership.

Our crew works hard and plays hard

We have traveled to many  High Adventure Camps  such as Philmont New Mexico, Northern Tier Michigan and the Summit in West Virginia.  We have participated in two National Jamborees and have traveled to regattas and camporees. We have also sailed in the Bahamas and  have sailed down to San Diego on the Maui Diamond.

Fun Time

Taking a break  might mean relaxing  on a hammock for some. But our crew spends time having fun and also work on our rank requirements at the same time. From shooting to swimming and hiking to eating.

The Maui Diamond

Our Ship

The Maui Diamond is our 70' Sailing Ketch.  This is our home base and the center of our program.  The Vessel was donated to us in August of 2017 by Mr. John Miller and his family.

Sailing Adventures

The Crew has sailed the Maui Diamond over 15 times to Catalina and once to San Diego. We've even sailed around the island once, stopping to dock in new places every night!

Want to join the fun?

You can learn how to sail her and be part of a crew that seeks fun, adventure  and most of all life long friendships.

Los Cerritos Wetland Stewards

Ship 550 is sponsored by the Los Cerritos Wetland Stewards.

The Stewards are a Long Beach Non-Profit working with the local community to propagate a growing consciousness for southern California's wildlife through holistic education and community involvement. Their mission is to cultivate a new generation of naturalists that will continue to restore and protect the native flora and fauna that define the beauty of coastal California.
